In general a lawful permanent resident (green card holder) may apply for citizenship using form N-400 if they are at least 18 years of age and meet certain residency requirements, such as a three or five year residency requirement and having a presence in the U.S. for at least half of that time period, certain legal status requirements and good moral character.
